MEDICINE

BY: HUNTER REGNERUS

The practice of medicine was rooted in the Greek tradition. Hippocrates who was considered the father of medicine, said that the body was made up of four humors: yellow bile, phlegm, black bile, and blood. Hippocrates also said that the body is controlled by four elements: fire, water, earth, and air. For medical practices the body would be purged by bleeding, cupping, and leeching.

In the middle ages herbal medicine was used for most illnesses. A couple different plants were used to help disorders. In monasteries when someone is sick they went to obtain herbs. Some people went to the witch to get healing potions. By the twelfth century there were medical schools throughout Europe.
