Siege Weapons

Page history last edited by Bryce 4 years ago

SIEGE WEAPONS

These weapons were used in battle to take castles. They were used in the Crusades and the Hundred Years War. The most common siege weapons, are the catapult, the battering ram, the ballista, the siege tower, and the trebuchet. The ballista is basically a giant crossbow, but instead of arrows it is loaded with spears. The battering ram was used to knock down fortifications, such as walls and gates. The catapult was used to launch ammunition, such as rocks and flaming pieces of wood, and damage defenses. The trebuchet was a type of catapult that used a large arm to slingshot rocks at defenses. Some minor siege weapons were sabucas (a wooden structure used to protect soldiers and to easily scale walls), petards (used to easily breach walls, gates, and trebuchets), ladders, canons, and corpses ( which were thrown over walls of castles to make the enemy sick and make it easier for the attackers to get in the castle). this is my report on siege weapons.
